At 9 ft, the field-of-view maths point straight at a 75″ 4K TV. That's the size that fills the SMPTE-recommended 30° horizontal viewing angle without pushing into cinema-territory 40°+ where head-turning starts. Bigger works if you want cinema immersion; smaller works if you value crisp text more than immersion.

The relationship is simple: viewing angle = 2 × arctan((screen width / 2) / distance). At 9 ft that puts 75″ at a comfortable 30° and the next standard size (77″) at around 34°. Both are within recommended ranges — pick based on how much wall or stand you have.
At this distance your eyes can resolve full 4K detail on a 75″ screen without the "pixel grid" being visible. Move much closer and you'll want 8K or a smaller size; move further and the picture stops filling enough of your view to feel immersive.
75″ hits the SMPTE 30° field-of-view target at 9 ft. Sizes within 10 inches either side stay in the comfortable range.
Yes — the THX cinema target is closer to 40°, which at 9 ft works out to about 95″. Movie-first viewers often prefer this more immersive size.
On a 75″ 4K TV at 9 ft, individual pixels are below the resolving limit of 20/20 vision. You get the full detail benefit without seeing the pixel grid.
Every recommendation combines your viewing distance, room lighting, primary use and budget. Sizes come from THX and SMPTE field-of-view standards; technology ranking uses documented panel behaviour in each lighting condition.
